Conflict Resolution: America's Peacemaking


Since Biblical, times there have been conflicts and rumors of conflicts, dating back to the Egyptians and the Israelites, according to (James, 1982). However, the first conflicts were with the two brothers Cain and Abel. This conflict conclusion was that one brother killed the other because of simple jealously and envy. Myers, (2010. p. 484) states that conflict is a perceived incompatibility of actions or goals. Examine America in the early 1900s where a civil unrest was escalating. The civil unrest was that of a nonviolent persuasion. This civil unrest focus was on North America possessing a two-sided justice system, which one was for Caucasians and the other for African Americans. The main reasons for the civil unrest was because many people from the south believed that African Americans had no Constitutional rights. The climate during this time was very political and disturbing. African Americans born in the United States believed that they were owed the same Constitutional rights as others born here, but subsequently they did receive them because of their color. In many states of the South African Americans experienced physical beatings, hangings, and other kinds of disfigurement, and maiming just because people did not understand or accept them for who they were. This civil unrest led to the Civil Rights Movement. The Civil rights Movement was a nonviolent protest that African American ministers of the gospel implemented. These men along with other nationalities, and women organized this nonviolent protest to demand specific rights, such as the United States Constitution Amendment XIV [1868].
