Writers from a different discipline tried to define Altruism with a different meaning, as social biologist named Wilson define this term as behavior of self destruction. In psychology altruism also varies and there is no single definition which can define this term universally. Altruism focuses on two factors it includes intentions and the amount of gain occurs to the person. In this essay, I will support the theory of Batson, as according to Batson altruism is an act focusing on the ultimate goal for helping others and increasing the welfare of other. (Batson, C.D., & Shaw, L.L.1991)Altruism is totally opposite of the egoism. I think that if a person is helping other person is feeling something for the other person as an act of empathy. If, a person is performing any act of altruism that person is not expecting any reward. Person is working voluntary. Some writers think that if a person is helping another person that means there is some goal behind that act, this theory makes the altruism act bit selfish. (Van Vogt, M., & van Lange, P.A.M.2006)

Batson book Altruism in Humans is a very inspiring research work, in his book he investigated the altruism and came up with the claim that Empathic act is very basic leading to altruistic behavior. This suggest that when person is helping other the basic aim behind helping other is the welfare; there is no mentality that person will be rewarded or any selfish intentions for receiving the reciprocal help and attaining status. Batson supported his work by providing different theories, one of his theory named as a theory of Altruistic motivation.
