The Relationship Between the Processes of Leadership and Management

Generally speaking, a big component of our life belongs to an organization; millions of men and women around the world spend their lives working in different organizations, to face innumerable challenges in order to meet their daily tasks. In addition most organizations have a method or program to achieve its goals, objectives and mission, nonetheless, to accomplish these goals, companies need to identify and include a model of “management”.


Moreover, the success that an organization can obtain is clearly dependant on the performance of the management of the company. This statement that management is responsible for the success or otherwise of a company tells us why management is very important, however, it does not tell us when it is required (Kotter, 1996).


Normally, individuals who assume the management of an organization are called “managers”, and are responsible for directing the activities that help organisations to achieve its goals.


The starting point of a good manager is the measure of the efficiency and effectiveness that it takes to achieve organizational goals. He has the ability to minimize the resources used to achieve the objectives of the organization (doing things right) and the ability to determine the appropriate objectives (do what needs to be done).


Additionally, the manager should not be focused only on directing activities, being a manager also means being a good leader; as a leader knows how to make influence on those activities carried out by members of the group in a successful manner. The manager, in order to achieve its objectives, should know how to use different forms of power in line to influence the conduct of his followers in different ways (Belbin, 1996).
